wildfire smoke

August 27th, 2010

Smoke from the Oak Flat fire (near Selma/Cave Junction) has intermittently blown into Grants Pass and Jackson county this week, and we may continue to see smoky air for days or weeks as the weather and wind change. If you have asthma, please keep an eye on the news and take care to avoid heavy outdoor exercise on hot smoky afternoons.

As children begin school, please update rescue medications such as albuterol or epinephrine with the school nurse or office if needed for your child.

It seems that the weekend smoke has moved on, but continued heat may result in fires (or the Russian fires may send some smoke our way) so keep those asthma action plans handy! Also remember to update school rescue meds for asthma before school starts. Please check to be sure that your child’s inhaler is not expired.
